Word Wall Headers/Letters

Ohhhh....the word wall! A source of struggles for me for the past few years. I have read so many different opinions as far as: where it should be, what should be on it, what the letters should look like, should it be interactive, should you have more than one!?! So MANY questions and differing opinions!

Here is my solution....why just have one word wall?! My room is not square and it's not a rectangle! WHAT SHAPE IS IT you say?! Well, it has a funky slanted wall, but my room is HUGE!  They hung a big bulletin board over some cubbies that I have. I am sorry. I do not have a picture. (That is on my list for next year...take more pictures.) Anywaaaaay, That board can be seen by my kids from everywhere in the room. So, I wanted to put one of my word walls there. I have that one color coded! I put our high frequency words on yellow, girls names on pink, boys names on blue, and math words on orange.

I made new word wall letter headers for this word wall. You can click on the title page to download your FREEBIE! :-)

My second word wall is an interactive word wall. The kids can take the words off if they want to. It is much lower...easier for them to manipulate....therefore can't really be seen from anywhere in the room. I use the cards from my Letter Land packet on this wall. It has the letter card AND the beginning sound picture card too! You can click on the title page below and it will take you directly to that product in my store. I have a few versions available and actually working on a few more. I have had lots of requests for this to be redone in different backgrounds, colors and fonts. I post them as soon as I get them done.

I would love to hear about your word wall!

I only have one word wall and it is huge and can be seen form everywhere, but it is not interactive. I printed, laminated, and cut the letters and pictures in your letter land pack and I can't wait to get them up!! BUT now these new letters are so cute..I need something to do with them!! Your stuff is too good :)

We have 3 "word walls"...well, actually one is a "phonics wall", one is a thematic word wall "pocket chart" on a bulletin board so its interactive, and the other one is our "outlaw word" pocket chart (words that don't follow the rules, therefore needing a chant/song and actions to help them spell and learn to read it.

We started out teaching first grade years ago by having the basic word wall with sight words under each letter and found out that the kids just copied words and they never gained any independence. That developed into our Phonics Wall. Each week we introduce a sound/spelling pattern. We came up with posters for each sound/spelling pattern that includes a picture clue and a clue phrase. We categorized the Phonics Wall into: borry-r vowels, vowel teams, short-vowel markers, blends/digraphs, and "other".

We just got a new Reading series for next year so we hope to still incorporate this into our curriculum...even though our order of introduction of sounds and sight words will be a bit different.

Your word wall letters are adorable! I have a long rectangular word wall area. I have a pirate themed word wall called "Words We Treasure" in my classroom for all of our high frequency words. I color code the sight words for each unit so they are a different color. I would like to work on an interactive word wall this summer. I have always thought that is a good idea! :)

I LOOOVE your word wall headers! Question.... can you make table signs with those same background designs or tell me where you found the cute clipart you made with them?!!! I love the color schemes and wanted to have a red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple table... and have them numbered "Table 1, Table 2, Table 3, Table 4, Table 5, and Table 6 respectively!" That way I can start off with reviewing colors, then start teaching numbers... and I can change them out throughout the school year to help teach a certain skill! =)

And I LOVE your idea of color coding the words! I didn't even think to put our math vocab on there! I love the idea of using the paint chip cards to surround our word wall cards... Have you seen that on pinterest? Great ideas!!! (p.s. I already have the word wall headers printed and laminated for next year! I actually printed off a 2nd copy with 4 letters to a page so I can use them in centers! They are so precious! GREAT JOB!)

I love the word wall cards. I printed them out and used them as labels for my leveled library. I bought new bright blue mini crates from Dollar General and your letters look awesome! I see many others asking for help with making them. I'd also like to know if you bought a digital pack or made them yourself, and what font you used. I'd like to make a few more circles for my chapter book crates.
Thanks!!

Is it possible to make a Word wall sign that matches the letters? I love the letters and I have used them in my classroom but I can't seem to find the "perfect" word wall sign. Thank you so much for the letters! I can't wait for school to start.
